Built in 1882, the Bond Store was designed by Frederick de Jersey Clere. In 1972 the Wellington Maritime Museum was established at the southern end of the building. In 1999, the whole building was refurbished and earthquake strengthened and reopened as the Museum of Wellington City and Sea. 2015 marks 150 years since Wellington was made the capital city and Wellington’s Museum gift to celebrate the occasion was ‘The Attic’ – a permanent exhibition on the fourth floor telling more of the fascinating stories.
